I have a motability car which I’ve had on the scheme for 4 and a half years and has cost me about 17k with monthly payments plus AP and optional extras.
At the time of purchase retail price was over 31k. Carwow offered me the car for 27.5k at the time.
Current car value is 10k
Buying the car myself at carwow I’d be 27.5k down with a 10k car on the drive so total loss is 17.5k.
On what I’ve spent I’m already 500 quid up and havnt even added the free servicing, repairs, tyres, mot and insurance. Not to mention the good condition bonus.
The VAT free route would be my other option when motability choices dry up. VAT free on carwow prices of course as nobody pays retail price.
The issue of “substantial modification” isn’t as scary as it sounds as you would be surprised at what mods qualify and how cheap they can be. A simple discussion with an experienced dealer clarifies everything. It’s not a complicated process.
In the end I’ve got a motability replacement on order but whether motability is a viable option in the future remains to be seen.
