Gail, just re-read your post and I think what you saying is you did not take the golden handshake in cash, as in the £2,000 but you took it in keeping the car for 22 weeks without payment but I assume those 22 weeks add up to the same as taking £2,000 so the situation would be the same in them wanting some of the money for when Motability were not being paid by DWP but again you should have a back payment of your PIP or DLA back to when you were kicked off Motability so that should cover those 22 weeks.
That’s my thinking but could be wrong because my situation is slightly different going for the cash.
Just to be clear if you wait 6 months and rejoin you don’t pay anything back be it £2,000 or 22 weeks of free rental.
