Oh a paper work nightmare case, (not for you)
Kelly Irrelevant of conditions of Your insurance (as long as you have it) on your car, your insurance company will claim 100% of damage repairs/hire car and any excess you might have from RSA (partners insurance) for some reason some insurance companies make you pay your excess then refund it at the end. As it’s none fault your insurance company will be keen to provide you with the best service as they are not paying.
your partners insurance (RSA) will arrange for a hire car whilst repairs are done to his car and liaise with your insurance, RSA themselves are very good overall it tends to be the repair centres that are hit and miss.
the reason for my comment of paper work nightmare. This refers to they will ask you questions and forms to fill out ask if the driver or owner of the other vehicle is know to you. Even if your not married and live separate don’t be tempted to say No. they are not trying to catch you out , be honest it may mean they ask for a more in depth report on your car to make sure there was no previous damage but won’t effect or delay things, this is nothing to worry about and will make no difference to the claim you knowing each other, they just ask a few more questions to eliminate fraud cases and have to do so to satisfy their underwriters, (be honest you’ve got nothing to hide and that way they can’t catch you out) it’s just more paper work for them and shouldn’t effect either of your cars getting sorted.
by the sounds of it with a ripped of bumper, your car is not road worthy, this is where your policy comes into effect, as to if they supply you with a replacement vehicle whilst the claim is being processed and a decision made , you will have to check your policy, your partners insurance will arrange for his car and a replacement dropped of should his be unroad worthy. It all sounds complicated but nothing to worry about they deal with this serval times a day.
with regards repair times that will depend on the repair centres used, dependant on if RSA insist on your car being repaired at there nominated repairers or allow your insure to deal with it. A few years back someone smashed into me (they were known to me, but was a genuine accident) I had a hire vehicle dropped of within 3 hours, my vehicle picked up etc the whole process took 12 days (private insurance).
As been mentioned by others the only delay maybe if your partner needs a adapted hire vehicle, other than that it should all be straight forward and soon sorted, try not to stress about it, at the end of the day it’s just an accident (no one hurt) and accidents happen, plus it gives you years of bragging rights and wind ups in the future should the age old Women drivers subject come up.
Good luck hope it all goes well.
