How long do you get a “hire” car for ? is it for as long as needs be…say months while your car is being repaired or is there a limit…..and what happens when your hire car time is up.

3 months is the maximum time that it’s booked out for in circumstances such as finding a new car in the event of a scheme vehicle rejection or a write-off, that gives you 3 months to order and collect your new car.
Otherwise it’s until your scheme vehicle has been repaired. You get 24 hours to return the car when yours has been fixed by the dealer otherwise the insurance will be cancelled and they’ll come and fetch it within three working days in theory. I say in theory because it took Europcar over a month to even realise that I’d dropped a VW Golf back at the dealer in March before they came and fetched it.

Waiting times are subject to how competent the delivery teams are, within three days is the standard, but it can be several weeks if you’ve requested anything bigger than a Corsa, or if it’s automatic or is an “SUV” etc etc. I’m due to use Switch for my car next week, so I’ll report back with my experience.
