Hi everyone, I am asking this as it seems normal that dealerships ask for the advance payment a few days before collection. What if you have alot of adaptations like a boot hoist and then your chair doesnt fit on the day even though you confirmed with the specalist beforehand? Also if this happens and there isnt another suitable vehicle you can get on the scheme is there any recourse?

Is this a hypotheticial situation as it contains a few ‘what if’s’?

Ideally, regarding your chosen adaptions, you need to liaise with the adaptions installer before the collection stage to ensure that your chosen hoist does work with your wheelchair and vehicle and that your other adaptions will also work for you.

The adaptions installer really is key here. It is not unknown for a customer to take their wheelchair to the installer’s premises whilst the installation is in progress to ensure a perfect match.

Then, on the day of colllection if there is a hiccup, do not enter your pin to accept the vehicle. Get the dealer to summon the installer if necessary to make any adjustments before accepting the vehicle.

Re paying the AP in advance of collection, simply tell the dealer that it is not going to happen until you have at least inspected the vehicle. It is acceptable for them to ask for a small deposit in advance but this is returnable should the vehicle not be in order.

As for there being no other suitable vehicle on the scheme, you would need to speak with Motability about that. They do have a complex solutions team who can look at what other scheme vehicles will work for you.
