Premium brands were removed from the scheme for no other reason than optics. Crazy, but it was one of Rachel from accounts moves to pander to the idiotic press, public and MPs who all still think that Motability cars are ‘free’ and given to ‘bone idle benefit scroungers’.
Unfortunately there is more to come. We will be subject to Insurance Premium tax, VAT on APs, plus reductions in scheme benefits, such as the removal of overseas cover and a reduction in the very generous 60,000 miles limit over 3 years. Oh, and you might have to have a device fitted to monitor and score your driving. No pressure there!
If you are prepared to pay £12k plus the ever increasing APs for an EV and / or something from China or the Far East, then the scheme can still offer a reasonable choice, although the stigma of being a scheme customer nowadays isn’t very pleasant. If an EV isn’t suitable for you and you prefer something European, especially if you need something of a decent size, forget it, hence why many of us are now looking elsewhere.
