Between the government, the press and motability themselves, they are doing their best to destroy the scheme.
I don’t even think I’ll see out my contract which has just under two years left.
Wow, you really have been out of the loop if you’ve missed the removal of the so-called premium brands. It seemed like the biggest story in the press a few months ago.
Blimey! How did you miss all the changes?
Premium brands were removed from the scheme for no other reason than optics. Crazy, but it was one of Rachel from accounts moves to pander to the idiotic press, public and MPs who all still think that Motability cars are ‘free’ and given to ‘bone idle benefit scroungers’.
Unfortunately there is more to come. We will be subject to Insurance Premium tax, VAT on APs, plus reductions in scheme benefits, such as the removal of overseas cover and a reduction in the very generous 60,000 miles limit over 3 years. Oh, and you might have to have a device fitted to monitor and score your driving. No pressure there!
If you are prepared to pay £12k plus the ever increasing APs for an EV and / or something from China or the Far East, then the scheme can still offer a reasonable choice, although the stigma of being a scheme customer nowadays isn’t very pleasant. If an EV isn’t suitable for you and you prefer something European, especially if you need something of a decent size, forget it, hence why many of us are now looking elsewhere.
While far eastern spice might not be as spicy as a BMW/ they’re hoping you can still build your dreams with them and be taken to the promised land.
The scheme is pretty volatile at the moment. It will settle down and may gradually return when the press and media lose interest.
Just get what you can out of the scheme, it is challenging at the moment.

I agree @Glos_Guy, there seems to be a stigma with the scheme which wasn’t there even when I started my current lease, 2 years ago. There’s always been the odd one jealous of someone suddenly showing up with a new car but they weren’t really a problem. Then that website appeared targeting everyone with a tax exempt car and allowing the chronically hard of thinking to identify Motability cars near them. Then the ‘premium’ brands were removed because we can’t have free BMWs. Then Rachael decided to screw us with a VAT increase on the AP.
Just to note, while my car is being fixed, I’ve got an iX2 as a hire car. 75 plate too, that’ll get the local numpties stressed. 😂😂😂

Tbh there are plenty of bone idle, benefit scroungers…
Elders of families have passed the skill on to the younger generation of the family, can usually be spotted by the dented, filthy brand new cars parked across paved areas, over hanging bushes from the unkempt gardens, blocking pathways, smoking/dealing drugs and using the cars to deliver, also turn up as costumers in brand new cars because granny got a iffy knee..

It’s really great that the vanity, show off to your neighbours cars which do nothing for the UK have been removed.
Love the sight of Badge Bunnies crying on these forums that they can’t get cars from companies like BMWand the Quant family, who supported Hitler before he was Fhurer, and would have sent you all to concentration camps because of your disabilities, have been removed
Now, let’s talk about Chinese companies using slave labour to build their cars…..

When BYD first launched in the UK, their cars had “Build Your Dreams” across the rear of the car. That soon changed! Overall though they aint bad cars lol.

That’s a bit rich coming from someone who, if my memory serves, used to be employed by BMW! Your hatred for BMW, often spouted on this forum, makes me think that they parted company with you and you’ve held a grudge ever since 🤔
