I might be able to help a little bit here Glos Guy.
1- Some insurers will accept Motability NCD as “Earnt NCD” others will accept it as “Claim Free Driving” which is similar to ex-company car users. It’s important to find the insurers that accept it as Earnt NCD as this becomes portable at renewal if their rates become uncompetitive. In the case of “Claim Free Driving” you could be in a situation at renewal of being in recept of 1 year NCD equivalent to 60/ 65%
2- Similar with NCD transfer. It used to be on an insurer basis. Some would allow transfer from policy holder to named driver in the event of the policyholder not being able to drive. Normally, this would be allowable if A- Spouse B – Named driver was on policy for period of NCD years transferring C – Health reasons only. Other insurers may have only done this in the event of death.
3 – Your circumstances (accident). When I was an “expert” in this field there were many insurers that would allow their own step-back scale. Senario, possibly your case, you had 9 years NCD (most insurers max) and had an accident in 2021 – they step you back once on their scale, that could be from 9 to 4 years. You would have earnt 3 or 4 years since then (depending on your renewal date). You could potentally have 7 or 8 years to use now.
