I’m a little less sceptical about future changes. The mileage reduction will come as they’ve already said it will (probably down to something like 12k pa with an extra cost option for those who need more) Whilst they might like to see themselves differently, I think that Volvo is still seen in the trade as ‘aspiring to be a premium brand’ rather than quite there yet. Also, the curtain twitchers won’t get as agitated by their neighbours Volvo as they might their Mercedes or BMW. Same with the media and social media, judging by all the comments. On that basis, I don’t think that it was a mistake leaving Volvo on the scheme so, hopefully, they will remain. I’ve never yearned for an Alpha Romeo, but I think they are seen as enthusiasts cars (Clarksons mad about them) so if they are a bit of fun that’s no longer allowed for disabled people
I don’t see trackers becoming standard. There’s no point in them incurring the cost if the only drivers live with the disabled person as they’d have no way of knowing who was driving. If the sole driver lives away from the Motability customer then there’s a clearer case for them. Servicing with Motability is bare bones already, so nothing to be saved there. I hope that there won’t be any tightening of early terminations, as I might want to do one when I find a car that I like privately, but there will be ways around that if you have the right reasons for terminating,
The Alfa 2.5V6 was quick for its time <2005, notorious to work on (I believe Cosworth wanted to but the manufacturing lines), much like Fiats mirafiori era that made name for itself. Alfa majority owned by Fiat come the 80’s, GM got took over Alpha in 2012, Alfa’s 3.2 and 3.6 GM engines utilize Alfa Romeo cylinder heads. The 3.2 JTS engine is a GM block with Alfa Romeo heads, while the 3.6 engine is a GM block designed in collaboration with Alfa Romeo, so they were renown for sporty cars but also had little 3cyl banned by Motability. Unlike Fiat, Vauxhall etc, Alpha was lucky to escape Stellantis and remains under GM ownership.
@DumfriesDik “would you lease” topic opens eyes on Leasing.com vs Motability (Renault 4) – certainly worth a look!
I came across an article on Disability Rights which is an intering read, that looks what Motability future plans look like inc trackers:
