In terms of a Motability exemption on the 3ppm, no chance.  ICE customers pay fuel duty on every litre of fuel bought, at 3ppm it’s still significantly cheaper than the fuel duty plus VAT fossil fuels would attract.

If anyone is hoping their MP will vote this down, there’s no hope.  Labour MPs have effectively been bought by the 2 child cap benefit change.  Moving away from the budget, the political will to protect Motability is much lower than protecting PIP for those very near the poverty line.

Legal challenges would be interesting.  It’ll take some money to get this to a level where the government will move away from their plan.  I do somewhat doubt reducing privileges given to disabled people would be seen as in breach of a law but I’m no lawyer.

My biggest fear isn’t what else this government would do but if the current trend towards Reform continues, they’ve already said plenty enough demonstrating their position on disability and the welfare system.  The upcoming impact on PIP will likely be brutal, the scheme will shrink as a result with all the negotiating weakness that follows.
