i am one of those somewhat older veterans @bigdave and potentially even the fudge she’s come up with could screw me. having lost the veterans auto grant my ap search has already been reduced by 660 so i am looking at an ap around 500. currently the automatic suvs i can get in and out of below that amount currently add up to maybe 6 from 0 ap to 546. add on 20% and half become iffy or unaffordable. add on say 70 for ins urance tax searches ive done for going private most policies for me would be around 500 so 12 %. so an increase of around 170 on aps i could just about do but i would probably just go for the 0ap option if there are any. messing with the ap by increasing it by 9 per week adding 1200 to the ap wold not be doable my cashflow would be screwed i live literally month to month. i will need to hand the car back in may get the allowance paid to me and not leave the house until ive saved enough to pay cash for something. i am not joking. i am seriously looking at that one as for the last month i have only driven out 4 times a week to the gym for physio and doctord appt. trouble is taxis to do that would be over 120 so the 86 a week wouldnt cover it. so depending what the numbers actually comes out at thats my nuclear solution hand the car back sit in the house for 6 months or a year and look for a 2 or 3k runabout. isnt life fun
Don’t let your head get down yet @mitch
What you can do is make any ex-military organisations you know of aware of the situation in general and get them lobbying. Even down at grass roots level. I know the ‘big boys’ at Cobseo are aware.
Also let your MP know asap (no matter what rosette he/she wears). The budget is being debated in the House of Commons until 4th December I think it is and the more MP’s who raise the issue (and the wider VAT on Motability’ issue) the better.
