Will motability customers have to pay the ppm toll for electric cars as they are exempt from paying road fund license? While I have no issue with owning used cars, and have in the past, the issue is that because I have been a motability customer for a while, I will have no ncb so the premiums will be high. Motability took away the option to purchase the lease cars at the end of the lease, using our benefits, I was considering purhasing the previous lease car but the option was no longer available
We don’t know for sure, but as Motability customers who drive ICE cars aren’t exempt from fuel duty, then I see no reason why we would be exempt from this new charge. The 3p per mile (or 1.5p for PHEVs) is to partly (initially) offset the loss of fuel duty, so not connected to road fund licence.
You don’t need to worry about no claims discount. The majority of insurers will now allow you to transfer over a no claims history earned through Motability. It used to be limited to 3 years, but I think many will allow the full history now. Motability’s insurers will even provide a proof of no claims history earned for this purpose.
