Although I don’t like the current X1 as much as the previous generation, I would still choose it over a Volvo XC40. IMO the X1 scores over the XC40 in a number of areas – a more enjoyable car to drive, better infotainment, far better fuel economy and a bigger boot. BMWs have a perfect blend of performance and economy that Volvo are way behind on in comparison. The days of BMWs being poorly equipped are long over. Yes, there are a lot of extra cost options but there are with Volvo as well. The standard seats in BMW X1/2 aren’t great, but the sports ones (which are probably standard on the variants through Motability) are fine. The XC40 is quite dated compared to the latest X1 and overdue a replacement, but Volvo have put all their eggs in the EV basket and neglected their ICE cars as a result.
