In three months we can start to order – i expected a bit more of an ordeal test driving cars (Mach E etc), but turns out that with our second test drive (first one being the Enyaq) we already found “our” car.

In regards to safety tech, well i do like that i can mostly turn everything off straight from the main screen (in particular the lane holding assist, which i personally find outright dangerous). The speeding bong for going 21 in a 20mph zone isn’t particularly impressive either.

The only other downside really, i hate the indicator sound. Not just in the Skodas, but all modern “beep” style indicators that don’t sound like a relay clicking. Obviously wouldn’t be a reason not to go for it, but you know, just voicing my impressions – and that’s something i immediately said to me lady when we drove off the lot.

I forgot to mention, the most impressive thing about the Elroq (and the Enyaq, for that matter) is the turning radius if you go for the 2wd (“non-X”) model. That kind of shocked me, it’s considerably and noticeably smaller than even in the Golf (in fact, it’s smaller than a VW UP!, which is kind of insane). We took it to Swansea Hospital (because that’s where we were before we went on the test drive, we knew their parking lot was ram packed), an absolute breeze taking it through narrow and tight corners despite the size. Starting to wonder, really, what the upside of the 4wd is supposed to be – much larger turning radius, decreased efficiency/range, no improved traction for 95% of the driving situations. Makes the 2wd a no-brainer for us.

Though, definitely splurge for the Maxx pack, if you like music. The standard sound system is rather anaemic (the demonstrator did not have the Maxx pack – the Enyaq did, and the uprated system does the trick).
