The only experience we have of NHS England wheelchair service was around 15 years ago. Mrs Joe wanted something lightweight she could easily put in the boot and get out of the car herself at work. There was nothing suitable on the NHS. She found a lightweight Quickie fully foldable (flat) wheelchair at £2500 (15 years ago). But they wouldn’t fund it. She then discovered Access to Work who funded it with her employer, she had to pay two seventh’s of the cost as she worked 5 days and would have personal use for 2 days a week which she had to pay for (🙄).
Back then Access to work needs a letter from NHS wheelchair services to say they could not provide her with a suitable chair. They absolutely hated doing this, we had to contact them 3 times to get a letter saying they could not provide her with a suitable chair. It left me thinking it was an outsourced company who did not want to lose a sale. 🤔
