Excellent point @MFillingham I also have a close family member with ADHD, but works in a very high pressure job and wouldn’t dream of applying for benefits or call themselves disabled.
I suspect that there are two issues being conflated. The re-classification of health conditions such as anxiety and depression as ‘disabilities’ in their own right seems to be being challenged, but there has been a lot of commentary lately about the huge increase in ADHD in this country since the pandemic, a condition that apparently isn’t even recognised in France!
Personally, I never agreed with the widening of the definition of ‘disability’ to include health conditions that are part and parcel of the stresses of life, some of which are best solved by having the purpose in life that comes from having a job, and the inevitable result of this is now playing out, in that all those on PIP are now being labelled as scroungers and the Motability scheme becomes a very easy target for the ill informed to vent at.
