When last in Norway I had the opportunity to drive both rear wheel drive car and a 4 wheel drive car both fitted with winter tyres. The rear wheel drive was just fine. But on more demanding roads, going up hill with sharp turns the 4 wheel drive with winter tyres felt a lot more secure. I was amazed as in the UK most traffic would be stuck or moving very slowly. I was driving slowly as my UK driving brain said stop driving and get off the road. The cars normal driver just drove as if the was no ice or snow.
