So we had our xc40 a while, (70 plate) simply haven’t made a choice to change, anyone else extended if so why, am I just being lazy..(guess so)..
It’s worth keeping in mind that the automatic right to a 2 year extension (making it a 5 year lease) has now been removed and is only allowed for cars with under 20,000 miles at the 3 year mark or those with adaptations, although implementation of this policy has been inconsistent.
However, some people have managed to find an option to still extend to 5 years on their online account. If you have this option, do it ASAP. It doesn’t commit you to anything, as you can change at any time within that 2 years but, as I say, that option is going.
My online account didn’t have that option, and they refused my request to extend, saying that the maximum extension allowed would be 3 months, but I made a case to them that the lease that we took out 3 years earlier contained a clause that made provision for extensions and that they couldn’t vary the terms of a lease agreement without contacting us and giving us the option to withdraw from the lease without penalty (which they hadn’t done). They then allowed the 5 year extension! As it happened, we ordered a new car a few months later, so didn’t need the extension, but there was a principle at stake!
What you mustn’t do is agree to a 3 month or 12 month extension. Motability will only allow one extension, so always make it a 2 year extension so that you can change at any time within that 2 years.
