Unfortunately, those who are forced onto single person benefits struggle. It’s hugely shameful that the DWP appears to expect all single people to live with parents or in shared accommodation. Rent benefits have been lost with the increases in private rents over the last few years, meaning most of the benefit meant to pay the other bills had to go to rent and, therefore the food bill, energy bills and transport expenses all are left with a stupidly small pot of money.
There are low cost cars, which don’t take up the full allowance, maybe the base level Inster may be one of them. I truly feel for those on their own in this climate.
