@mitch Probably too early to even think about cars. Wait until mid 2026 before looking. The ZEV mandate is 22% for this year and 28% for 2026. The list of available vehicles will be very different as will the charging infrastructure. There will be a lot of changes between now and 2026. Bear in mind your next choice in 2026 will be the last time you can choose an ICE car on the scheme. When 2029 comes around it will only be EV,S.
Also by 2029 you will be lucky to find a petrol station…anywhere! The transition year is next year, 2025. That is when they reckon the changes will be very noticeable.
The government itself expects petrol stations will still be around in the 2040’s and have said the sale of some hybrids will continue after the cut off date, which will likely be extended beyond the 2035 date which still stands today.
The state of european BEV manufacturers, will alter things further, unless Starmer allows the UK to be flooded with Asian EV’s mainly from China. The rapidly unfolding situation could even see the end of the ZEV mandate or risk manufacturers exiting the UK, which they have allready threatened.
