@kezo Interesting day today. I did a 217 mile round trip, the longest journey so far, so obviously the bulk of the journey was in petrol / HEV mode. I knew before I worked it out that mpg equivalent was going to be poor, as on the return run the fuel computer was accurate for the first time as I started with no charge. The return journey was showing as just 33 mpg 🙄. Working out the whole 217 miles accurately on a pence per mile basis (£2.32 charging cost + £31.23 petrol = £33.55 total cost, divided by 217 miles), the journey cost me 15.46 pence per mile which equates to just 38.8 mpg. I think that’s poor, as the petrol BMW used to achieve around 45 mpg on that journey as it’s all motorway and A roads. On a more positive note, I’ve now done over 1,800 miles in the car and, using the total pence per mile calculation, those miles have averaged out at 12p per mile, which equates to 50 mpg ICE equivalent. As predicted, it’s a tale of two halves. Local journeys are considerably cheaper than they were in the petrol BMW, but longer journeys are more expensive. Overall, based on my normal usage, the PHEV is cheaper to run but I’m still not convinced that the overall saving is going to be big enough to offset the faff of having to charge it after every use. However, there, wasn’t an ICE car that appealed so we are where we are.

When electric range has ran out, is your still charging the battery, back to 100%, regardless of mode used?

Whils’t my economy is being kind, since having the car, I normally do much longer journeys than, I have done this year and especially since taking delivery, due to family matters however, I’m very much in agreeance, that it’s a tale of two halfs.

I, don’t mid charging, because its a mattery of just plugging the bugger in, when done for the day and unplugging the next. If overy 3yrs, I got an average of 50mpg I’d be happy but, £3k seems to be where the value lies overall and not closer to £5k, when you take the whole package into account.

I shall reserve overall judgement untill after or during winter months.

Even the new MG HS does 75miles between charge!
