    I contacted Motability about cancelling my vehicle and I was informed that the dealership may charge a cancellation fee at their discretion. Surely this cannot happen after waiting 6 months for the vehicle and there is still no sign of any delivery or any updates, especially when I was told that the vehicle should be ready for collection after 12 weeks of placing the order.

    They say this in order to deter people from messing dealers around but, in reality, I’ve never known anyone be charged a fee. If you explain to the dealer the reasons for you cancelling I’m sure you’ll be fine, but if you have any issues come back here and we can help, as you have not entered into a legally binding agreement. Over the years I’ve assisted two forum members when dealers tried to retain deposits and in both cases they got their money back but, as I say, I’ve never known a dealer try to apply a cancellation fee, probably because they know that they couldn’t enforce it!
