Sorry to hear that and do hope your feeling better and its nothing serious.

Cheers @kezo. Much appreciated. I have a feeling that I know the answer (‘no’ 😂) but can I ask you a quick question?

As you know, in the Tucson PHEV, when the battery depletes to 15 of 20%, the car defaults to HEV mode. In this mode, the petrol engine both drives the car and recharges the battery, meaning that it is quite fuel inefficient. My question is this – is there a way to stop it using petrol to charge the battery, so that the petrol engine is purely powering the car and nothing else (like an ICE car)?

The reason that I ask is that I did another 110 mile round trip yesterday. I did as had been suggested by @Oscarmax and left home in EV mode, switching to HEV when I joined the motorway. The petrol engine fired up but was constantly charging the battery as well as powering the car. As a result, the mpg was shocking. Looking at the instant mpg readout bar, it was consuming petrol at around 25mpg and, at times, dipping below 20mpg. This was all on a motorway at a steady 60 ish mpg (so a fuel efficient speed). I appreciate that this isn’t a truly accurate picture, as this thirsty usage is also paying for some ‘free’ electric miles, but even taking that into account it still seems poor. I can’t help but feel that the most economical usage would be to use the 38 or so EV miles as a priority (as I do) but then just have the petrol engine powering the car and not charging the battery any more than the 15-20% reserve that the battery holds for local driving.
