Hi @kezo I know that you were keen to know how I got on with the car during our holiday last week, starting with a full charge and then running in HEV mode for the rest of the week.
Unfortunately, we had to cancel the holiday at the last minute, as I had a medical issue crop up unexpectedly which resulted me being in hospital for half the previous day and needing a further follow up visit at hospital later in the week. I didn’t want to be away from home should the symptoms flare up, as it would have been a medical emergency if they had.
As a result of all of this, I barely used the car last week, but will start to do so again from tomorrow. All my journeys over the next few months will be normal ones now – a mixture of local trips in EV only and round trips of up to 100 miles or so, all of which will commence with a full charge. Consequently, it’s probably going to be October before I need to put any more petrol in the car, so I’ll update then with regards to total running costs and the ‘true’ mpg equivalent.
I already know that my local journeys in EV only mode are working out at less than half the cost of the BMW (so about 90 mpg ICE equivalent) but the HEV mode in isolation I’m less certain about. My sense is that it’s quite a bit more expensive to run in this mode than the petrol BMW once the battery has depleted, but thankfully this will be offset by the EV mileage. Only time will tell when I have done several ‘full tank to full tank’ calculations what the true overall picture is.
