Jeepers @kezo It’s mind blowing and I’m not sure that I follow 😂 The drop in range I mentioned was purely the stated petrol range, which had dropped from 313 to 303 even though the petrol engine hadn’t been used at all during that journey. There was 23 EV mile range remaining, so the total range at that point was 326 miles. The figure where the 101 in your photo shows is indeed combined range, but I’m using the detailed read within the menus (and app) that shows the split
On the return journey it dropped another 2 miles to 301 petrol range, again when the petrol engine hadn’t been used at all. I had 7 miles EV range left giving a combined range of 308 miles. It was a 25 mile round trip, all done in EV mode, and the EV range depleted by 32 miles, but I did get up to 85mph on the way home to see if the car remained in EV mode (it did 😂). I’ve just got home and put it on charge (which will take just over 5 hours at 10 amps) so I’ll see what the petrol only range says at the end of that!
Either way, I’m not going to use stated range for any calculations, as I know from experience in ICE cars that range is based upon the most recent period of driving, so can actually increase during a journey if driving very economically, even though you are using fuel throughout. I’m just going to work out a pence per mile (total running costs – petrol plus the cost of all charges since the last refuel, divided by miles driven) and then work that total pence per mile back into the current petrol price to get a true mpg equivalent. I’m 100% confident that’s the only accurate way to do it in order to make a fair comparison with an ICE car and having finally landed on that methodology I was pleased to see that Harry from Harry’s Garage YouTube fame uses exactly that same calculation 😉
I intend to fill up for the first time just before our holiday and will do the first calculation then. I’m expecting a good result, as most journeys will have been at least 50% in EV mode. I’ll then do it again after our holiday, which won’t be as good as it will be a good few hundred miles with just one charge. However, that will be my worst case scenario situation, so will be really interesting to see. I might be pleasantly surprised 🤞
