@Ioniq I’m sure you’re right. Even though our annual mileage is above average, and when I was working way above average, it does seem fair that those who use the roads more pay more to do so. I guess that approach will benefit the majority of Motability drivers, who tend to do very low mileage.
Having just taken delivery of a PHEV, I shall enjoy the savings whilst I can. I suspect it will take some years to introduce a scheme that charges us per mile but I agree it seems inevitable that it will have to happen. Of course there’s then the added factor that BEVs and PHEVs cause more damage to our roads due to the extra weight, but I don’t see how they can factor that in as well without putting yet another obstacle in the way of the switch to electric. I guess they will factor that in to the road charges. If so, logic says that in the future we will ALL end up paying more than ICE drivers do now, regardless of what powers our cars 🙄
