Basic maths, ICE car @ 36mpg and £6.45/Gallon (£1.43/Litre) = 18p per mile Full EV car @ 3 miles/kWh Home charging at 7.5p/kWh = 2.5p per mile Average public charger at 69p/kWh = 23p per mile You maybe better off with a full hybrid (FHEV) these do a much higher MPG than a standard ICE car so could reduce your petrol consumption by up to 50%.
Is it really £6 – £6.50 a gallon now? (Can’t you tell I’ve been in a BEV for a while) That’s awful.
To put it into a proper picture, Destination chargers can be 39p per kWh, that’s 13p per mile at 3 miles per kWh, I’ve not seen a rapid below 60p in far too long and many now are pushing 79p or more. There are ways to get discounts, depending upon your use the ChargemyHyundai card will give bigger discounts for a higher monthly fee which can be quite good economy if you have the right chargers nearby.
