Hey, first time posting on here. I got my car in 2019 and when it came to 2022 I asked for an extension. I was told initially that I could only extend it for 6 months due to no adaptations and high mileage (close to 70,000 miles at the time). So not sure how this is a new policy? I was then told I could extend to 5 years due to paying a high AP (£4,000). I was also told at the time that an extension of less than 2 years cannot be extended unless for reasons out of my control – like if replacement lease vehicle takes a while to be delivered.

Hi and welcome! The new rules have come in during the past few months. I paid an AP (with optional extras) that was even slightly higher than yours and when I mentioned this I was told that they no longer consider that when determining whether or not to allow a 2 year extension. Anyone can extend to 6 months, but for a 2 year extension the car must now meet one of two criteria – either be under 20,000 miles or have adaptations. As our car doesn’t meet either of those criteria I was told that I cannot have a 2 year extension, just 6 months.

However, as we have seen from a recent response, there is inconsistency with the application of this new policy. When our order window opens up at the end of next month I’m going to try to get a 2 year extension online without speaking to anyone (as someone else has done). If that doesn’t work I’m going to ask again and say that they aren’t applying the new policy consistently and therefore if exceptions are made they can make one for me. If they still refuse I shall make a formal complaint as I believe that any new policy changes should only apply to leases taken out after the policy change, and not be retrospectively applied to leases that were taken out under the previous rules.

Of course, if something exciting comes onto the scheme next month I may not need to do this, but given how the scheme is going I’m not confident that will happen.
