Agreed. An incredibly bad move. Why they have messed with what was the industry’s best infotainment system is completely beyond me. You lose the ‘favourite’ buttons as well, which is a fantastic idea that I don’t know why other manufacturers don’t copy. When I had the iX1 30e for the day there was only one area where it was an improvement on our 2021 X1 and that was the addition of Auto Hold. In all other respects I preferred our previous generation model. The i4 retains the rotary controller but I believe still loses the favourite buttons?[/quote]
Correct, sort of!
The physical favourite buttons are gone, but swipe down on the screen, and you can access 8 favourite “buttons” to which you can allocate any of the many apps from the main menu.
Not as good as physical buttons but better than just having the screen like on some other EVs.
And the i4s coming through now have the updated iDrive 8.5, which is a little more straightforward.
