I never really know why reliability surveys would cause too much interest with Motability customers, as we aren’t responsible for any bills if anything goes wrong. The brand that seems to come bottom on every reliability survey is Land Rover and whilst it’s rare to see any cars broken down on the side of the road these days, when you do it’s quite often a Land Rover. That being said, if Land Rover came on to the scheme tomorrow there would be a lot of us interested!

Whilst I’ve never understood the hatred towards BMWs that comes up quite regularly on this forum, I can understand that if the OP has had a bad experience with one it will put them off, as it would me.

Personally, I did have a problem with one BMW, a 3 litre petrol 5 series. Engine management issues. However, let’s put that into context. I’ve been driving for over 40 years and have driven many hundreds of cars from most mainstream manufacturers. I like quite a few brands, and not just the premium ones (I like Fords, for example) but the one that consistently comes out top for me is BMW. I have owned or had company BMW 3 Series (coupe and 3 x Tourings), 5 Series (petrol and diesel), 7 Series and X1 and, aside from the one that I mentioned, all have been flawless. I’ve also driven (for decent periods) multiple 1 Series, 3 & 4 Series saloons, X3, X5, iX1 and even the Z4. I strongly suspect that I’ve driven over 100 BMWs alone. The last thing that would stop me buying or leasing another BMW would be worrying about reliability, although I do wish that they’d go back to fitting run flat tyres as standard. They were brilliant.
