    Does anyone know why the Enyak and VW group equivalents use drum brakes on the rear? Just had a quick look at one and one of the first things I noticed. Same with the Q4 E-Tron. It can’t really be for regen purposes, as they suggest, as no other manufacturers EV’s Ive seen use them.

    It was explained to me that it’s because the EV versions don’t use the rear brakes very much. So it’s cost effective and to stop them rusting due to lack of use.

    This is exactly what I read, can’t remember where though.

    After doing some further digging, the drums are actually a new design made by Continental,which have a some fancy internals, aluminium covers and reduce C02 from brake dust – but, not from the tyres lol.

    I wonder if by having them will increase stopping distances at speed, say on a motorway where regen is often at the lowest level or turned off.
