I renewed my license at the end of last year took a few months because it had to to through the DVLA’s medical department but luckily they renewed mine for 10 years.
The DVLA were subject to a parliamentary committee review last year that was far from flattering and the outcome was that the DVLA was branded archaic and in urgent need of upgrading it’s systems.
I’d recommend you get your license in to them as soon as you can because once it’s passed on to their medical department it will vanish into a void for at least a couple of months. Even ringing their CS team won’t help because they openly admit that they have no way of contacting the medical department once they have your license and you just have to wait for it to go through whatever processes that department deam neccessary.
Good news is whilst your license is at the DVLA you should be covered by section 88 that means you can still drive your vehicle whilst the DVLA sort your license out up to a period of 12 months
