    I have railings, I could just get a padlock, loop cable through and padlock it. It would prevent people stealing the cable to resell it on eBay, but people looking for scrap copper would just cut the cable.

    IMHO, you would be better going for going for the E-POD charger. You can store the cable away, safely when not charging the car. When you charge the car, both the charger and car will lock (I will check), as a added safety you can padlock it to your railings, that way if somebody cut the cable, they will likely get a nast shock.

    Can’t the charger go at the side of the house, rather than at the front?

    However a suface mount meter box (elec or gas), will hide the charger and cable from prying eyes and would be the cheepest option at £50ish
