Just completed our online survey for Ohme, it says we MAY need an isolation switch, has anyone needed this, how much was it. We have a 100amp fuse and a consumer unit fitted about 8 years ago when we got a new kitchen.
Yes mate you need a isolator, which you should have, if you have had a smart meter installed. It should also be included in a standard install (no cost)
The cut-out fuse carrier in your meterbox/cupboard has a max Amp rating of 100A, which you see on a label on the carrier. It does not mean, that the fuse in it is rated at 100A. Ohmes contractor would have likey checked with the DNO if this needs ugrading to 80 or 100A depending on your DNO, which would be at no cost to you.
The installer will split the meter tails coming out of the meter to your consumer unit, using Henley Blocks (junction box) New tails from the Henley blocks will then supply a dedicated consumer unit for the charger. This will not affect your home consumer unit.
