My experience has been if for service/mot then a home pick up/drop off was asked for and pre arranged
Expect to loose your car for best part of the day and yes they unplug your car cam and leave it unplugged

Best clock your mileage before and after imo
For a non urgent repair a courtesy car can be requested in my case needing an automatic for my carer wife used to cause delay but this issue can often be overcome by requesting an electric courtesy car.
