    I definitely didn’t know about that. Is that a new thing? Mine has been in 12 months now and I thought it was connected to the Wi-Fi.

    [quote quote=241663]@fastbike no- they connect like a mobile phone using a SIM card. I am not entirely sure why wifi hasn’t been considered. All I can think is that sometimes the charger may be further away from the house and out of range if a signal so they chose to take the route to go down the mobile data route instead.

    I have mentioned this in previous posts about Ohme charging a data connection after 3yrs. Ohme differ from the large majority of smart charger manufacturers, who provide both lifetime E-Sim support and Wifi built into their chargers. The question is no one yet knows what this will entail cost wise as the years go on to keep a data connection.

    Of course if you wan’t the cheapest EV tariffs around you need either a Ohme or Indra charger, unless your vehicle is compatable with these tariffs. Octopus and Ohme have you by the bolloxs if you have an incompatable vehicle, as they use real time monitoring by Kraken Flex. EDF also use Kraken Flex but doesn’t tie you down to a particular charger, which I’ll leave you work that one out!  OVO on the otherhand uses Kaluza for its real time monitoring. Kaluza is a OVO group company. The bigger problem lie’s as nothing is standardised across energy companies where home charging is concerned yet, leaving them to do as they wish or form niche partnerships ?

    Of all the chargers out there, of which many are superior only 2 manufacturers have signed up to be compatble with the two K’s. Octopus has tried to get other charger manufacturers to use Kraken and sign up to their niche group ever since it started offering EV tariffs. Non have and I wonder why or perhaps they think it is a…. However to the unconcerning customer they will go where the cheapest tariffs are. Perhaps Ive been in this job to long to long!

    @Rob
    you seem ontop of it and there plenty of decent chargers out there that don’t cost the earth and have dedicated solar integration. Perhaps you could get your local electrician to install a changeover switch for summer months using another charger.
