After paying the £2000 deposit and you did cancel, would you get the £2000 returned ? Read the terms and conditions of paid deposits and order cancellations for the Dealership.

They don’t really apply with a Motability order Mick. We never enter into a legally binding contract with a dealership, unlike a private customer. The contracts are between Motability Operations and the dealership / manufacturer (and Motability allow us to cancel, so no issue there) and between us and Motability Operations. The latter only comes into effect when we enter the PIN and accept a car. It is only at this point that we are legally tied to a contract

Whilst I would advise against paying a deposit (which can be easily avoided by going to another dealership), and I think that the OP would be foolish to part with £2,000 up front, the dealership would have to refund the deposit to a Motability customer.   In all the years I have been on this forum, I can only recall two instances where people have had problems getting deposits returned. The first one was resolved fairly quickly and the second one was resolved when I provided the person with a letter to issue to their dealer. BTW, I have never cancelled an order myself, but would have no hesitation in doing so if a better car came on the scheme after I’d ordered.
