Was it like this when you tested it?

I HAVE QASHQAI E -POWER THE 1.5 PETROL IS VERY LOUD NOISE WHEN IT COMES ON NOT GOOD NOW ENGINE NOT GOOD AT ALL I HAVE HAD 2 QASHQAI BEFORE THEY WARE GOOD CARS PETROL 1.2 NOT THIS ONE WHEN YOU PUT YOUR FOOT DOWN ITS A TANK

This is not right, @Mike 700 has had one for a good few months now and no mention of this.

Hi, I have now driven almost 8000 miles in my ePower over the last 10 months, and I agree that the 3 cylinder petrol engine can appear to sound quite noisy at times, especially if stationary at traffic lights etc., because it revs at quite a high speed to enable it to charge the battery, but I wonder if this noise (problem ) that some people are reporting is because the car is otherwise so very quiet that they are getting caught off guard when the engine cuts in, at revolutions that they are not used to experiencing of course, it is also worth remembering that the Qashqai engine is not running all the time like a 100% ice car, it only cuts in when the battery needs a charge?

I drive mine in B & eco mode locally, and on most of my short local journeys (3-6 miles ) in traffic, the engine stays off, but when I occasionally slip into sport, it will come on, and using D drive, in standard , or sport mode,on the Motorway it does come on quite often but is not intrusive – btw, I am not obsessing over MPG, so I drive it like I would any other car, I’ll get what I get, currently averaging 50+ .

As I have mentioned previously, in sport mode at traffic lights I leave most cars standing, it takes up the drive instantly, smoothy and quietly just like any other electric drive – sometime the engine cuts in , if the load on the battery is too high, but mainly it races away silently.

However ,if people are going to compare the Qashqai’s internal combustion engine noise level with that of an ev motor, then they will be disappointed , different beasts- chalk & cheese, but if they compare the ic petrol engine noise with that of say ‘a 4/5 cylinder diesel engine ‘ then they will not be disappointed – I had 55 months with a 2ltr diesel Tiguan (a really excellent car & fully loaded very pleased with it) and before that I had 5 x D5 XC Volvos , over a 10 year period, and I am certainly not disappointed with the overall engine noise level in the Qashqai!

I note on several Qashqai forums that there are a number of complaints (and these stick in the mind) about the engine noise, but what about the thousands of others who happily drive Britain ‘s consistently best selling car and don’t complain?.

Btw – just to clear up some misconceptions – it is not a hybrid drive, it is a 100% battery powered fully electric drive just like Tesla or the I D VW’s , etc, the difference being ‘the way the battery is charged’, & it is a much smaller cheaper battery ( for now ), and the car is considerably cheaper than similarly kitted out EV’s?

The big advantage it ,currently , has over an EV is ‘ no range anxiety , I am up north for the rest of the week, and have nearly a full tank of petrol, showing a 712 mile range  ( this will vary depending on usage)
