New to this, and got me thinking while researching some cars. Why do dealers not take Part Ex as part of an order. It would allow people with vehicles to extend their market search…? Sorry if this been asked before.
Although part-ex isn’t part of the Motability ‘deal’, if the car that you are selling is the same brand as the Motability car that you are ordering, and is not too old and doesn’t have high mileage, dealers may still buy the car off you as a separate transaction.
I don’t know if used car prices are still as high as they were, but I bought a brand new Hyundai i20 (privately) 10 months ago for one of my daughters. I told the dealer that I would sell her 6 year old i20 privately. Just before we picked up the car (so long after the deal had been done) I asked the dealer purely out of interest how much the car was worth to them. To my utter amazement, they offered me £500 more than the absolute top price that I could have achieved privately. So I sold it to them ?
If your current car is a different brand, too old, high mileage etc then it’s never worth selling to a dealer, as they just send the car to auction, so will give you even less than worst case auction price. Always best to sell privately in those circumstances.
