You have to question the statement of claim being pointed in the direction of a diesel car as diesel is a relative safe fuel as it has a high flash point unlike petrol however it does have electric systems like every car that can be a catalyst for diesel. Once a fire gets hold in a closed in car park it will spread uncontrolled from fuel tank to fuel tank but if its a high capacity battery that needs no oxygen or other catalyst to burn they basically just got to sit and watch until the energy in the battery has depleted. In the case of a fire starting in a petrol or diesel car I would not think an EV’s battery would add to the fire hazard unlike the other fuels but if the EV is the cause of the fire then its a complete different out come in controlling the fire.

Fire fighters have got a problem with high voltage batteries that there finding hard to deal with, regardless what caused this fire, and as far as fire chiefs go there not going to say anything to upset their paymasters, i.e. council and government politicians who have preached that diesel is an evil, or at least since Gordon Brown left office when they were the savour of the Earth. ?
