I doubt those will appear on the scheme anytime soon. Its also unlikely Genesis will ever appear.

Whilst there has been a massive decline in the number of premium cars offered through Motability over the past few years, these brands are going to be relying very heavily on lease companies to meet their EV targets, especially as private buyers have yet to be convinced about their merits in sufficient numbers (accounting for only 7 or 8% of EV sales I believe).

I think that this, along with Motability’s desire to ‘convert’ as many of us as possible, explains why almost all the higher value cars on the scheme are now EVs. I see that trend continuing at an even greater pace now that the dates have been pushed back but the manufacturer targets remain. Lease sales will be the only solution, so I think we will see more premium cars coming onto the scheme but, unfortunately, I think these will be restricted to EVs.

I’m a little more optimistic about Genesis than you. To their credit, Hyundai seem to embrace  Motability far more than other manufacturers. We get access to the vast majority of their models, not just the ones that aren’t selling! I’ve only seen a few Genesis cars on the road and I suspect that most fleet customers at that price range are going to be far more inclined towards the German brands. Motability could be a sensible way to get more on the road in order to increase awareness amongst the wider public, as I suspect that private Hyundai customers ‘trading up’ will be their main target audience.
