Just for absolute clarity. My voluntary work does not involve use of the car in any way. I just use the car to get to and from where I do the voluntary work. If any voluntary work involved taking people or items around in the car, then I would concur that this would not be covered.
I agree with Joss though. If in doubt, ask. However, as kezo says, ‘how’ you ask is likely to elicit different answers. We only ever speak to junior call handlers when we call Motability and they may well answer literally, rather than in the spirit of the rules.
Finally, I think that my wife would make a very strong case to say that having me out of the house a day a week is of definite benefit to her ?
