BMW’s joint venture with China’s Great Wall Motors will also see the end of of its current production of the electric Mini in Cowley next year, as part of its plans to reshape Mini’s lineup from 2024.
The 2024 Mini hatchback and small SUV electric Minis will be built in Baoding, China at the same plant as the Ora brand and be based on the new EV platform as the Ora. The new upcoming Mini Aceman which is expected to debut in 2024, will also be made in China.
BMW will also be move the manufacturing of the electric Countryman to its factory in Leipzig, Germany.
The Cowley plant will continue to make three door, five-door, and convertible petrol Mini Coopers for export to overseas markets such as the US and Japan. BMW said there will be no loss of jobs at the Cowley plant!!
