Regulation 722.531.2.101 of BS 7671:2018amendmet A1 (2020) requires that each charging point incorporating a socket-outlet or vehicle connector shall be protected individually by an RCD of Type A, Type F or Type B and having a rated residual operating current not exceeding 30mA. The RCD must also disconect  all live conductors including neutral.

It is a requirement to select at least type A RCD for EV charging installations in accordance with regulation with the above regulations and for PV installations in section 712, regulation 712.411.3.2.1.2 may require a type B RCD.

Regulation 531.3.3 requires RCD’s that  take into account into consideration DC components and frequencies.

In a nutshell the UK requirements require that the charging point must be RCD protected by iits own RCD and circuit. This satisfies the installation of Eassee chargepoints where regulation are concernced.

The latest international IEC standard for Mode 3 electric vehicle charging stations (IEC 61851-1:2017) also requires either a RCD Type B or a Type A RCD and appropriate equipment that ensures the disconnection of the supply in case of DC fault current above 6mA.
