I visited a couple of dealerships today and had a couple of test drives.
1. Honda, I test drove the HR-V. It is a stunning, purposeful looking car. Unfortunately, it looks good, but is very very noisy driving along. It seems to be tyre road noise and quite loud. This was my first erxperience of a CVT gearbox and …meh its how it works…not a big deal. Everything else was ok, but eliminated due to road noise.
2. Just bounced into the Newbridge VW Dealership, after a quick chat they handed the keys to an ID.5.
Wow. This ticked every box.
Really high seat position, I reckon QQ or Sportage territory..that is the seat jacked up as am a short arse.
I never thougth I would get an EV at this height. I thought I would have to go with a Hybrid Sportage, or QQ.
A clean and clear spacious cabin, I reckon the sunroof made it look big. Very clear view of the road, and decent mirrors. Very good over speedbumps, that is a biggie for me.
It is plenty fast, I just love the EV no lag push. Its rear wheel drive as well.
I kinda set a limit of 2k on cars. This came in at about 1800 with the 750 from MB. then 250 GCB should lower this further.
Anyway, a 16 week lead time for the cars. free metallic paint, I chose Blue with black roof.
I done a dealer order there and then, I cant officially order from Motability until Mid August for mid November handover.
But yup ID.5 – it ticked all my boxes. Touch controls I will live with. It fits in my drive.
I cant tell you how relieved I am that I found something that ticks all the boxes.
