I’m not an eco warrior, far from it, but people need to change their mindset regarding how EVs work compared to ICE cars.
statistics show the average miles per day a person does is 25 miles. You do not need a full tank of petrol/diesel to do that, but we do. We run the ice car from full to almost empty, then fill up again at the closest petrol station. You don’t run a tank of petrol down to zero, because if the crud in your tank.
With EVs, mostly, yes there are exceptions, but mostly, you charge at home. You do your 25 miles, then recharge, you charge to 80% unless you are doing a long journey, then you charge to 100%.
Unless you have a death wish, in any car, you don’t drive for 250 miles without stopping, the difference is with EVs is that time you spend at the services whilst getting something to eat/drink, you use that tine to charge.
Yes, it’s a different mindset, but why do we run around at 100mph rushing from one thing to another? Yes, compared to filling your ice car tank with a use once fuel in 10 mins (though you can queue for a while at places like Costco ) it takes you 30 mins or less to charge from 20-80% which will be few and far between, most will be short charges.
Dont forget the added benefits of being able to heat or cool your car before getting in, to the quiet driving, the on demand torque.
is it for everyone? No, just like petrol or diesel is not for everyone either.
