    @Belfast4

    Thanks for your reply. Thought I would just make sure that I had the provisions of the scheme correct and found I had made some errors which I apologise for. I stated that the minimum wage was £27,000 and overtime might be taken into account both were incorrect.

    The scheme is open as you said to all NHS Staff and takes 2 forms, a salary sacrifice scheme and salary deduction scheme. Most NHS staff do not qualify to join the Salary sacrifice scheme as under the terms of the scheme minimum earnings are £27,500  basic pay and overtime is not taken into account.

    The top earnings for my Band 3 in 2020 was just over £22,000 (you can verify online) and to get the best figures on the scheme one would have had to be on or above the higher rate tax band of £50,001. I obtained a current quote online for a higher rate tax payer leasing a Audi e-tron GT Quatro which is the only one on the scheme for a monthly premium of £711.27 net per month.

    For myself as I dont qualify for Salary sacrifice scheme, for a Dacia Jogger 1.6 HEV under salary deduction the cost would be £667.67 per month. You can verify what I have said by ringing  NHS Fleetsolutions on  03448118228. You could also go to the website:- nhsfleetsolutions.co.uk and pretend you are a NHS employee (at this stage of the application there are no specific security protocols) and obtain quotes.

    I also asked the member of staff I spoke to this morning about a Audi e-tron for £250 per month in 2020 and she said “we are good for higher rate tax payers, but not that good”. I had my first Motability car which I applied for in June 2020 and checked to see whether I could do better on the NHS site and as @ChrisK said it didn’t come close. As with many of these schemes they are designed to be tax efficient for the higher earners but even then dont compare favourably, other than for choice of vehicles.

    I dont know what your gripe is with the NHS, but making statements without checking their veracity is always fraught with problems, as I hope that appallng journalist from the Telegraph is going to find out.
