Yes… nice idea but can’t see it happening.
The scheme is far from perfect but it does mean lots of people can get a car they might otherwise not. Ultimately a car is a tin box on 4 wheels. They’re all the same in so much as they get you from A to B.
If this ever did come to fruition then I’d expect a hefty APR charged by Motability to mitigate those who default and I suspect there would be many, unfortunately – and mostly due to circumstances beyond their control.
This all feels a bit like topping up your online bookies account with your credit card. Ultimately, it’s all dead money and the only people spending £8k on APs are people who can afford it.
