In March the SNP confirmed their membership figure had fallen to 72,000 – a loss of 32,000 in two years.
Later on Sunday Mr Brown told BBC Scotland that the figure has increase by 738 since 24 March, three days before Mr Yousaf was named as leader.
Keith Brown made the claim on BBC Scotland’s Sunday Show the same day it emerged police were hunting burner phones as part of their investigation into SNP finances. It has also been claimed Nicola Sturgeon tried to shut down questions about the finances and SNP MPs were kept in the dark.
Mr Brown had earlier embarrassed himself by accusing Sunday Show host Martin Geissler of failing to hold the UK Government to account before being put in his place by the irked host. He went on to claim “action had been taken” to address issues within the party, adding: “…we are one of the most transparent parties in the UK, you will have a very good idea of the SNP membership … do you know what the membership numbers are for the Scottish Tories or the Labour Party in Scotland?”
When Geissler pointed out none of those parties had tried to “mislead” the press, Brown hit back: “You can’t just gloss over the fact they haven’t misled us (on party numbers), they haven’t told you. We are a more transparent, more successful party than any other party in Scotland.”
He again tried to play down the situation, saying: “We had a change of auditors. Like many, many other auditors across the UK, the auditors employed by the SNP decided they were going to cut back the activities they were involved in and that was true of many auditors and for many organisations.”
I have purposely quoted Scottish outlets because they are never “wrong” so I’m told and to be seen as bias!
However it seems Mr Brown is talking ?
