SNP left as laughing stock at PMQs as Sunak rips into Sturgeon over mounting crisis
Story by Dan Falvey • 1h ago

SNP Westminster leader Stephen Flynn was met with a chorus of heckles in the House of Commons today as he faced MPs for the first time since multiple arrests of high profile party figures.

The Aberdeen South representative joked he hoped Conservative MPs had had “as a relaxing Easter as he did” as he was mocked over Police Scotland’s investigation into the SNP.

With pressure mounting on the SNP, Rishi Sunak used Prime Minister’s Questions this afternoon to attack the party for the legal crisis it is being engulfed by.

The Prime Minister swiped: “If they can’t fix the mess that Nicola Sturgeon left their party in, how can they possibly fix the mess that she left Scotland in?”

The SNP’s former chief executive Peter Murrell – who is married to Nicola Sturgeon – has been arrested and questioned, before being later released without charge, with the couple’s home also being searched by officers.

On Tuesday Police Scotland also arrested SNP treasurer Colin Beattie, also the MSP for Midlothian North and Musselburgh, as part of Police Scotland’s ongoing investigation into how more than £600,000 in donations to the party earmarked for an independence referendum had been used.
